چکیده

Abstract Francis turbines operating in off-design conditions are subject to pressure fluctuations resulting from the development of hydrodynamic instabilities draft tube. Depending on nature flow-induced (synchronous or convective), this may induce dynamic stresses runner blades, increasing fatigue and risk crack propagation. This paper proposes identify impact tube flow turbine runners. Measurements conducted a prototype Hydro-Québec low-load full-load, including strain measurements stationary rotating components, respectively. It is first noted that convective component part-load vortex main source excitation for blades. The amplitude corresponding however reduced at locations closer leading edge, which dominant result propagation synchronous fluctuations. Finally, correlations between measured water passages tentatively established observed both deep conditions. aims evaluate feasibility estimating blade based signals components further investigation.

A Fatigue Analysis of a Hydraulic Francis Turbine Runner

In this work, the estimation of crack initiation life of a hydraulic Francis turbine runner is presented. The life prediction is based on the local strain approach to predict the initiation life. First, the analysis is carried out in air and in water condition and the runner’s natural frequencies were calculated using the finite element (FE) method. The analysis in air is compared with experime...

Experimental investigation of added mass effects on a Francis turbine runner in still water

The mechanical design of hydraulic turbines is conditioned by the dynamic response of the runner that is usually estimated by a computational model. Nevertheless, the runner has complex boundary conditions that are difficult to include in the computational model. One of these boundary conditions is the water in which the runner is submerged. The effect of the added mass and damping of water can...
